GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATIONS

There are three isomers of methoxybenzylamine; o-Methoxybenzylamine, m-Methoxybenzylamine, and p-Methoxybenzylamine. The o- stands for ortho- , m- stands for meta- , and p- stands for para-.  The prefix of these three compounds indicate methoxy position relative to methaneamine in the same benzene ring. They are clear to slightly yellow liquids. The toxicological properties of these materials have not been fully investigated. They may cause eye and skin irritation and may cause respiratory and digestive tract irritation. The methoxy substituted benzene ring structure has a metabolite destructive property and is useful in the application for pharmaceutical preparation. Methoxybenzylamine has similar structure of biological monoamine which has important physiological functions within the body as neurotransmitters in the central nervous system and hormones in the blood circulation. Methoxy substituted aromatic compounds have bacteriostatic and fragrant properties. Methoxybenzylamine and its modified derivatives, having both ether and benzylamine properties, can be used as chemical intermediate for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, pigments, textile auxiliaries, fungicides, and other organic compounds.
