APPLICATIONS
|
Propofol is a
non-barbiturate sedative to induce anesthesia sedation only, or general
anesthesia for procedures lasting less than one hour. It is known as an intravenous anesthetic agent which has the advantage of rapid
loss of
consciousness
after infusion or bolus injection plus a very short recovery period of a couple
of minutes. Its pharmacologic actions also include anticonvulsant, antiemetic,
hypnotic
and sedative and free
radical scavenging. Propofol is a clear to pale
yellow liquid; very slightly soluble in water; administered intravenously in a
form of oil-in-water emulsion. It is also used as a raw materials of sedative,
hypnotic, and anesthetic.
