DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS

Higher
chain alkanes have less use in the petrochemical industry due
to high flash point making it an
inefficient fuel. They are used as lubricants, transformer oils, and anti-corrosion agents.
They are chemically inactive. They are parts of the paraffin or
wax. Biologically
occurring in nature
(bacteria, bungi, plants or animals ) higher chain alkanes
do not rank biologically
among the essential materials, but they play an important roll in pheromones
that acts as a chemical messenger, transmitting information from one member of
a species to another member of the same species. |
