APPLICATIONS

Aminopyridine containing the monovalent chemical group -NH2 attached pyridine ring. The nitrogen atom in amino functional group contributes the free electron pair to the proton of an acid. There are three positional isomers. 4-Aminopyridine is a very effective avicide and bird repellent. But it is highly toxic to human also as it strongly excites central nervous system. 4-Aminopyridine is used primarily as a research tool for subtypes of potassium channels. 2-Aminopyridine is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals especially for antihistamines, antinflammatories and other drugs. Pyrilamine, an antihistaminic, is an example.  3-Aminopyrodine is also used as an intermediate for agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and colorants. Examples of end-products derived from 3-aminopyridine are Piroxicam , Tenoxicam, , Ampiroxicam. Pyridine molecules are coordinated as chelate ligands to form a complex with a transition metal ion. Pyridines are involved in photosensitizer chemistry, luminescent materials, metal complex chemistry and liquid crystal. Aminopyridine is used as a monomer for polymerization. An example of the end product from 3,5-dichloropyridin-4-amine is Cefazedone, urinary antiinfective agent.
