APPLICATIONS |
||
Levomenol is the biologically active L-form alpha-bisabolol, a monocyclic
sesquiterpene (three isoprene units terpene) alcohol. Naturally extracted
bisabolol is L-form but synthetic bisabolol is usually the racemic of the two
enantiomers, D- and L-form. Levomenol is the principal constituent of the
essential oil obtained from medicinal plant, chamomile. Levomenol is a clear to
yellowish liquid with slight floral or wood odor. It is insoluble in water and
glycerin but soluble in alcohols, fatty esters and paraffin. It is used as a
constituent in various fragrances. Levomenol's well known properties are accelerating skin healing process and compatibility with
the skin. It is used as an anti-irritant for sensitive skins. Levomenol is also
known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It is used in the
formulation of cosmetics, ointments, creams, lotions, and personal and skin care
products.
