GENERAL
DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS
|
Albendazole is an orally administered broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic
used against helminths and in the treatment of hydatid cyst disease and
neurocysticercosis. It is used to treat ruminant infestations by either
roundworms or flatworms. It is a white to off-white powder; insoluble in water;
soluble in dimethylsulfoxide, strong acids and strong bases; slightly soluble in
methanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate and acetonitrile. Chemical designation is
Methyl 5-(propylthio)-2-benzimidazolecarbamate.
