APPLICATIONS |
||
Amrinone, non-glycoside cardiotonic agent, is used in the short-term management of congestive heart failure unresponsive to digitalis, diuretics, or vasodilators. It is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor which prevents enzymatic breakdown of cyclic AMP with positive inotropic and vasodilator effects. Its chemical name is 5-Amino-(3,4'-bipyridin)-6(1H)-one. The lactate salt of amrinone is administered intravenously. | ||
