Febantel is a starting material to produce a broad spectrum benzimidazole
anthelmintics and their derivatives such as fenbendazole and oxfendazole used in
humans, sheep, cattle, and horses via the removal of a methoxyacetyl group and
cyclisation process. Febantel is also used as an anthelmintic itself against
gastrointestinal parasites in animals. Its chemical designation is
N-[-[2,3-bis-(methoxycarbonyl)-guanido]-5-(phenylthio)-phenyl]-2-methoxyacetamide.
