APPLICATIONS

Flutamide, an acetanilide derivative, inhibits androgen uptake and nuclear binding to androgen. It is used as a nonsteroidal antiandrogen in the treatment of metastatic prostatic carcinoma and to increase the flow of urine in benign prostatic hypertrophy. Flutamide is an antiandrogen with about the same potency as cyproterone. It is a yellow powder; soluble in alcohol and chloroform, sparingly soluble in toluene; melting point 113 C; administered orally. The chemical designation is 2-methyl-N-[4-nitro-3 (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] propanamide.
