APPLICATIONS |
||
Milrinone, non-glycoside cardiotonic agent, is used in the short-term management of congestive heart failure unresponsive to digitalis, diuretics, or vasodilators. It is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor which prevents enzymatic breakdown of cyclic GMP with positive inotropic and vasodilator effects. Milrinone is a yellowish crystalline compound; slightly soluble in methanol; practically insoluble in chloroform and in water. Its chemical name is 1,6-Dihydro-2-methyl-6-oxo-(3,4'-bipyridine)-5- carbonitrile. The lactate salt of amrinone is administered intravenously. | ||
