Sulpiride is a D-2-dopamine receptor antagonist which affects the level of a chemical messenger (neurotransmitter) in the brain called dopamine. It is used as an antidepressant and antipsychotic in the treatment of schizophrenia, hypomania and other psychoses. It is a white crystalline powder; slightly soluble in water; soluble in ethanol and 0.1 N HCl; administered orally and intramuscularly. The chemcial designation is N-[(1-Ethyl-2-pyrrolidinyl)methyl]-2- methoxy-5-sulfamoylbenzamide. | ||
