GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS

Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor is a class of oral medications for use in the management of type 2 diabetes which can be caused by too little insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar), resistance to insulin, or both. Alpha-glucosidase enzyme releases glucose from larger carbohydrates to break down into smaller sugar glucose in the small intestine. By preventing the enzyme glucose absorption can result in a slower and lower rise in blood glucose throughout the day. The alpha-glucosidase inhibitors include acarbose, miglitol, and voglibose.
