Trospium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound; white to off-white
crystalline powder; freely soluble in water (1 g/2 ml) and methanol, practically
insoluble in methylene chloride. The IUPAC designation is
[(1R,5S)-spiro[8-azoniabicyclo[3.2.1]octane-8,1'-azolidin-1-ium]-3-yl]
2-hydroxy-2,2-diphenylacetate chloride. It is a muscarinic antagonist that
counteracts the effects of muscarine or blocks the muscarinic receptors.
Antispasmodic drugs suppress smooth muscle contraction, especially in tubular
organs. The effect is to prevent spasms of the stomach, intestine or bladder.
Muscarinic antagonist which reduces the activity of the muscarinic.
