GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS

Violanthrene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (nine-benzene ring compound). It has the appearance of a blue crystalline powder. In structure it has enough solid bonds to store electrochemical energy and is a molecule of organic semiconductor. Violanthrone (5,10-Violanthrenedione, C.I. Vat Blue 20) is a subject of research for use in organic thin film transistors and OFETs. Violanthrone is a moiety of vat dye, which is resistant to photochemical damage. It is an emitter of bright chemiluminescence. The excited molecule transfers its electrochemical energy in certain phase of chemical reaction to sensitiser, which makes the sensitiser visible. Dihydroxyviolanthrone is a moiety for green vat dyes. Substituted violanthrones and isoviolanthrone (C.I. Vat Violet 10) are used in the preparation of fluorescent dyes which are used in the  detection of crude oil in depleted wells, pipeline interface, the source of a leak and identifying petroleum fuels. Molecules of violanthrene include:
