APPLICATIONS

The carboxyl group (–COOH) can react with alcohols, forming numerous esters. Many esters have distinctive odors, which are commonly used as fragrance or flavour agents. Salicylates has a pleasant odor resembling wintergreen. Salicylates also have analgesic, antipyretic, and antiinflammatory activity.
