GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS

Quinazoline is a heterocyclic solid-ring structure compound containing a benzene fused to pyrimidine. There are four isomers which are identified by Nirtogen positions; Cinnoline (1,2-Benzodiazine; Benzo[c]pyridazine; 1,2-Diazanaphthalene, CAS #: 253-66-7), Phthalazine (2,3-Benzodiazine; Benzo[d]pyridazine, CAS #: 253-52-1), Quinazoline (1,3-Benzodiazine; Benzo[a]pyrimidine, CAS #: 253-82-7), and Quinoxaline (1,4-Benzodiazine; Benzo[a]pyrazine, CAS #: 91-19-0). They have bicyclic aromatic ring structures comprising a benzene ring linked to two-nitrogen containing aromatic ring such as pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine. Examples of end products which have the fundamental structures of them are:
  • Cinnoline structure
    • Cintazone (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent)
    • Cinoxacin (quinolone class anti-infective agent)
  • Phthalazine structure
    • Hydralazine, Todralazine (Antihypertensives)
  • Quinazoline structure
    • Prazosin and Doxazosin (Adrenergic alpha-antagonists)
  • Quinoxaline structure
    • Sulfaquinoxaline (Anti-infective agent or Antiprotozoal agent)
    • Echinomycin (polypeptide antibiotic agent)

Diazanaphthalenes and their derivatives are used for making medicines such as anthelmintic, antiallergenic, anti-histamic, anti-emetic and anti-migraine agents. They are used as chemical intermediates for making fungicides and other organic compounds.

Luminol, a chemoluminescent dye, is a phthalazinedione derivative. Diazanaphthalenes can find applicaton in the luminescence (light emission), generated as the result of direct transformation of chemical energy into light energy without showing a corresponding degree of heat. Diazanaphthalenes can be the basic substance of fluorescent properties, used in luminescence chemistry of photosensitizing and organic electroluminescence materials industry which lead to the rapid development of photovoltaic and display devices.
