INFORMATION |
Salsoline
is a tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid, can be
found in Salsola
plants. Isoquinoline compounds have the heterocyclic ring structure of benzo(c)pyridine
(benzene ring fused to a pyridine ring).
The structural backbone of ring is characteristic of the group of opium alkaloids such as
papaverine and morphine. Salsoline is the monomethylated metabolite of
salsolinol which has been speculated to contribute to the etiology of Parkinson's
disease, a slowly progressing movement disorder, is thought to be caused by
certain neurotoxins.
and neuropathology of chronic alcoholism.
