2-t-butyl-4,6-dimethylphenol (1879-09-0) is mainly used as a stabiliser in gasoline and jet fuel. An industrial grade is manufactured by butylation of 2,4 and 2,5-xylenoles (from creosote or oil refineries).Purer grades are used among other things to prevent polymerisation of reactive monomers, e.g. acrylates, and as antiskimming agents in paints and varnishes
