APPLICATIONS

Alizarin is a red coloring mordant dye containing hydxoyanthraquinone structure with metal chelation; obtained originally from the root of the madder plant; now synthetic alizarin are prepared from coal tar derivatives. Alizarin is chemically 1,2-dihydroxyanthraquinone. The chelated metals result in deeply colored fabric and the brilliant dye colors; rose-red shades with aluminium, reds with calcium and tin, and brownish red with chromium, dark violet with iron and blue with barium. Alizarin compounds are used as indicators. Sodium alizarinsulfonate, commonly called alizarin red S is a yellow or orange to brown powder; soluble in water; used as a stain in microscopy, as a reagent for aluminum, as an acid-base indicator, and in the determination of fluorine.

Complexone refers to indicators (traditionally pH indicators) modified with molecular groups which are sensitive to metals so that it produces a visible change in the presence of the target guest. Alizarin complexone is suitable for the colorimetric detection of fluorine. Alizarin complexone is also known that it has antiretroviral activity for the medication purpose of the treatment of infection by retroviruses.
